Defective materials - recall
Many homes were built using substandard materials.
Air ducts made with a gray plastic wrapper were widely used.
The problem is this gray plastic deteriorates in the intense heat of the attic and falls apart, leaking air into the attic.
Recalls of this type of air duct were greatly ignored by the industry and have now expired.

Problems caused by old air ducts
The air ducts in your attic are not very popular. You throw your luggage on them, the cable guy steps on them, the telephone man crawls on them, the pestcontrol guy throws poison on them, the air conditioning guy pretends they don't exist!
Why? Because they are in the attic, itchy insulation everywhere, it's dirty, it's hot, there is no place to stand and you have to crawl to get to where you can find the problems!
Your Health
The air you breath inside your home travels through the air ducts all year round. Dust, mold, fiberglass and asbestos can cause all types of allergies and respiratory problems. Most home still have the air ducts that came with the house when it was built, even though the air conditioner may have been replaced more than once!
Waste energy
Older homes have air ducts that were designed for heating and are not properly insulated for air conditioning. Many still have asbestoes insulation.
Newer homes have flexible air ducts that were put in as the house was being built. Neither home has air ducts designed for today's new high efficiency air conditioning systems.
